Jason Biehl
Jason Biehl is an anti-racist educator, born and raised in D.C., with over 20 years of experience working in education with youth from diverse backgrounds. In 2017, he founded Change The Narrative, and works collaboratively as an educational consultant to further racial equity within organizations and schools. He believes in the benefit of “interrogating whiteness” work and is a trained facilitator, who is active in nurturing anti-racist community. As part of the Showing Up For Racial Justice (SURJ DC) Education team, he worked on curriculum development and organized a Masculinity and Whiteness Reading Group, which has become meaningful and transformative for white men in this work. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in African-American Studies and received his Social Studies teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Dr. Azeb Kinder
Dr. Azeb Kinder is an experienced educator, facilitator and trainer who works with individuals, communities and organizations to address and dismantle racially based inequities by transforming their beliefs, assumptions, and behaviors. She is the founder and CEO of The Kinder Group, a consulting firm with a mission to increase the cultural competency of organizations by leading their stakeholders in developing cultural self-awareness, knowledge, and skills that empower them to effectively communicate and serve diverse populations. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Temple University (M.A., Education) and Gwynedd Mercy University (Ed.D., Educational Leadership), Azeb has over 20 years of experience as a community organizer, educator, and dialogue group facilitator. Throughout her career, she has created and led engaging community outreach programs for a diverse group of parents and students, trained teachers, and facilitated numerous dynamic workshops.
Dr. Monea Abdul-Majeed
Dr. Monea Abdul-Majeed is a Racial Justice Speaker, Trainer, and Certified Yoga Teacher. She serves as Racial Justice Coordinator at YWCA York, where she is responsible for leading the organization and York community to racial equality through training, community events, and involvement with York school districts. Dr. Monea is also a 500 hour registered yoga teacher in the vinyasa style of yoga. She has been a dedicated student of yoga for 16 years and uses her knowledge of mindfulness to inform her racial justice work. She lives in York with her husband, Musa Abdul-Majeed, and their three children, Lailah, Zainah, and Amir.
Heidi Ellis
Heidi Ellis began her career in the public sector as a political appointee on the state level in New Jersey then in the Obama Administration at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), where she was also a member of the White House LGBTQ+ and African American kitchen cabinets. After working diligently to advance the policies and engagement initiatives of the USEPA and White House, she transitioned to the private sector and began a career in education policy and organizational management at EducationCounsel. She is the founder and CEO of HME Consulting & Advocacy, a DC-based company that utilizes deep experience in policy, strategy, and stakeholder engagement to build coalitions and advance policy initiatives that address issues of intersectionality within the LGBTQ+ community.
She is a dedicated advocate who prioritizes social and racial justice. Furthermore, she believes in amplifying voices of color to ensure equitable practices and programming and works with several local and national organizations/companies, governmental agencies, etc. on these efforts. Her consulting and advocacy work includes policy support, facilitation, training, initiative development, organizational design/redesign, and youth engagement. She also serves on the board of a number of organizations, including Strength In Our Voices, Capital Stonewall Democrats, and DC Forensic Nurse Examiners.
